NAIROBI | Kenya — More countries must help Kenya to prosecute Somali pirates, a top U.N. official said Tuesday, amid concerns that Kenya could be used as a dumping ground for the sea bandits who target ships for millions of dollars in ransoms.
Kampala | Oil firms; Shell, Total and Kobil Uganda are divided over a new open tender system of importing petroleum products into the country. Under the system, the firms will be required to import their petroleum products into Uganda as a single unit as opposed to multiple sources.
MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Tuesday confirmed that 20 Filipino seafarers had been abducted by Somali pirates off the coast of Kenya, saying that there are now 101 Filipino seafarers being held captive by Somali pirates.
The merchant vessel had sent a distress signal early Sunday local time from waters off Kenya's port city of Mombasa, and crew on another ship in the area later reported that pirates had boarded the Izumi.
